Swim Clinic with James Magnussen - Sunday 29th January 2023

Last Sunday the 29th of January will be a day stored in the memory banks of our swimmers for a long time.

We were joined at Camden War Memorial pool by two time Olympian and two time 100m Freestyle World Champion James Magnussen Official for a great morning of unique coaching and mentoring. James gave an inspirational introductory speech about his journey from a young boy in Port Macquarie to becoming a professional athlete, travelling the world over a 10 year career in the pool. Following that, the clinic moved into dry-land warm up and training routines, to work in the pool on all things Freestyle, turns and dives. Coaching aside, how James managed to maintain the attention of 50 children, young men and women at a high level for over three hours was phenomenal. The lessons learned over that time in and out of the pool can be carried with them through their regular training and events moving forward. How James kept the attention of the Mum’s in attendance was a little easier to understand.

The clinic ended with a 25m exhibition race between James and a few of our Senior Boys. Needless to say he’s still got it, but what a thrill that was for our team of swimmers to be on the blocks beside an athlete who has represented us and won, at the highest level. Following that James was very generous with his time, signing autographs, taking photos and hanging around for lunch.

On behalf of everyone involved, we’d like to thank James again for joining Camden ASC for the day and for the lessons and memories provided to our swimmers.

Thank you to Camden Council for supporting our initiative and thank you to our amazing group of sponsors for the 2022/2023 season. Our support from Sydcon concrete and real freight was allocated for training and we hope to continue with similar programs in the future.

We were also joined by six invited Picton Swim Club members and second claim Camden ASC members. We are so grateful for the assistance and support received from Picton Swimming Club and Picton Pool to get our season underway while our pool was being repaired from flood damage. This was a small gesture from us to show our appreciation and to give something back. Unfortunately we only had six spots available. Thanks for attending and we hope the day was enjoyed by all.

Thanks to the committee and general members who helped put the day together and make it a success.

Special sponsors mentions goes out to: Sydcon Concrete, Real Freight,Definitive Drafting, HGL Transport, Bombora Pools and Offshore Projects.
